FC Barcelona is about to initiate their Spanish Super Cup journey this evening as they compete against Athletic Club in the first semi-final of the event taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Blaugrana aim to earn a spot in the final, bringing them closer to obtaining the first trophy of the season, while Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will battle in the second semi-final on Thursday.

Aside from their competitive goals, this tournament presents a substantial financial reward for the four teams involved.

As reported by SPORT, the Royal Spanish Football Federation plans to distribute a total of €21.3 million among the participating clubs, which is an increase from the €19 million allocated in the 2025 edition.

An amount of €16.3 million is set aside solely for participation in the Super Cup and for travel to Saudi Arabia.

This is more than €1 million above last year’s figure and is divided according to factors such as past achievements and involvement in international tournaments.

Barcelona is anticipated to receive a set amount similar to the previous year, which was roughly €6 million, with only Real Madrid likely to obtain a similar sum.

The inclusion of Atletico Madrid this year makes the financial allocation a bit more even, although Barça still ranks among the leading recipients.

In addition to the participation amount, another €5 million will be distributed based on the final outcomes.

The Super Cup winner will gain €2 million, the second-place team will acquire €1.4 million, and the two teams eliminated in the semi-finals will each receive €800,000.

This event is also significantly profitable for the RFEF, which earns about €52 million from the Super Cup through broadcasting rights, sponsorship agreements, and the €40 million deal with Saudi Arabia for organizing the event.

Approximately €26 million of this income goes back into grassroots football, with a focus on aiding clubs in the Primera, Segunda, and Tercera Federación. In total, 82 clubs from these leagues have been invited to take advantage of this program.

For Barcelona, which continues to navigate financial challenges, the available prize money is an encouraging incentive and acts as extra motivation to strive for victory in the tournament.

Securing the Super Cup would not only bring early success under Hansi Flick but also provide essential revenue at a pivotal moment for the club.
