Chelsea to make SECOND January signing as journalist claims ‘deal is sealed'

 Chelsea has acquired Douglas Luiz, whose temporary move to Nottingham Forest is anticipated to finish soon, according to a journalist from Brazil. The club had already signed a young left-back in January. Luiz initially became part of Nottingham Forest on a one-year loan from Juventus in the summer of 2025.

After a successful period at Aston Villa in England, it was expected that the Brazilian midfielder would play a vital role at the City Ground. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has not achieved the expected results at Forest, featuring in just 14 matches for The Tricky Trees this season. Team insider, Graeme Bailey, mentioned on January 22 that Nottingham Forest intends to allow Douglas Luiz to depart this month. 

Our report suggested that Chelsea is interested in bringing the midfielder onboard, while his previous club, Aston Villa, is also keeping an eye on his status. A Brazilian journalist has disclosed that Luiz is set to join Chelsea on loan during the January transfer window. 

Jorge Nicola, who has close to 400,000 followers on X, posted on the platform at 4:50 PM on January 22, claiming: “Douglas Luiz will be loaned to Chelsea until the middle of the year. Sources connected to the midfielder affirm that the arrangement is complete.” While at Villa, Luiz netted 22 goals and registered 24 assists in 204 appearances.

 Presently, Chelsea stands at the sixth position in the Premier League table with 34 points from 22 matches, just two points shy of fourth-placed Liverpool, who are the reigning champions. 

Nottingham Forest is at risk of relegation to the Championship, as Sean Dyche’s squad is currently five points above the relegation cutoff. Chelsea is also preparing to sign Yisa Alao – Fabrizio Romano suggests that Nicola is the only source currently stating that a deal between Chelsea and Luiz has been established. 

Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano has supported our story concerning Chelsea’s pursuit of Luiz, although he has mentioned that no confirmed agreement has been reached yet. Romano tweeted on X at 1:11 AM on January 23: “Chelsea is exploring a loan arrangement for Douglas Luiz, without a purchase obligation unlike the current terms at Forest. 

Aston Villa is not advancing; #CFC is focused solely on a loan or a loan with an option, but not a mandatory one.” We should await further confirmations beyond Jorge Nicola to validate that Luiz is truly on his way to Chelsea and is poised to be the second signing for the club in January. 

One confirmed agreement involves Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday for Yisa Alao. Romano announced on X that the 17-year-old left-back has agreed to the transfer to Chelsea, which has completed a deal with the Owls, making him the first signing for this transfer window, although he is likely to begin by playing for the youth team instead of being included in manager Liam Rosenior’s senior squad. 

Romano posted on X at 1:35 PM on January 22: “Chelsea has confirmed the signing of gifted 17-year-old fullback Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday, here we go! The initial payment exceeds £500k with significant bonuses. Chelsea outbid three other prominent Premier League teams to finalize the signing.”
