Chelsea is one of the teams showing interest in Borussia Dortmund's midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to sources from Germany.
At first, it was anticipated that the Blues would refrain from any activity in the January transfer window; however, their strategy seems to have shifted, and they are now aiming to bring in a center-back and potentially a midfielder.
Reports suggest Chelsea is evaluating three different options for the center-back position while also searching for temporary midfield assistance for the remainder of the season. Chelsea’s focus is on Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha.
The club is believed to be looking into a loan for Douglas Luiz to offer immediate support for the rest of the season. However, acquiring a new midfielder is seen as a priority for the upcoming summer, as Chelsea seeks to lessen the load on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea has been associated with both Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, although there seems to be an additional midfielder being considered. Sky Germany reports that Chelsea has shown interest in Nmecha from Dortmund, with Manchester United also said to be monitoring the midfielder.
The publication adds that Dortmund intends to propose a new contract to the 25-year-old, as his current agreement is valid until 2028. So far this season, Nmecha has netted five goals and delivered three assists in 28 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga team.
Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo are expected to be sidelined for a prolonged duration. Given that Chelsea aims to secure a midfielder this month, it seems that both Lavia and Essugo might not be dependable for the rest of the season. With limited appearances this season, it is uncertain when either player will be ready to return.
The absence of these two midfielders has left Chelsea with fewer options, and a temporary acquisition this month would greatly assist Liam Rosenior concerning squad depth.
