Why Manchester United is not heading to the right direction under Erik Ten Hag

The club have been struggling to find their way back to getting consistent results since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and the club has went on to hire many managers but are still to find the suitable man for the job.

The appointment of Erik Ten Hag came after the sack of Ole Gunner Solskjear. Though he guided the club last season to Carabao Cup victory, he is unable to get the needed result while playing in the Premier league and Champions League.

The question about if Manchester United is heading to the right direction under Erik Ten Hag, I will say "No", the club is not improving and here are the reasons:

Unable to sign Quality Players:
During the just concluded transfer window, the club signed  many players for high fees, Mason Mount was signed from Chelsea for €64.2M, Andre Onana signed from Inter Milan for €52M, Rasmus Hojlünd joined from Atalanta for €75M, Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Regullion joined on loan.

If you check this players and their statistics this season, you will be able to know that they all under perform  and that the club over paid for them. Take a look at Mason Mount, he is not playing at his best level, Andre Onana has been conceding goal from every angle , Hojlünd is young and need more time to reach his full potential.

When you look at the addition of Sofyan Amrabat, one will even wonder what the Moroccan really have to offer the club, or what was the need of signing an ageing Jonny Evans.

The club recruitment team still have a lot of work to do if the are to get back to the winning way.

Unable To Get Results
Manchester United this season has failed to get their desired results,The club has played 10 premier league games this season but are only able to win five time while losing another five.

In the Champions League, they have played 3 games winning just one and recently a fourth round defeat in the Carabao Cup at home to Newcastle United.

Two consecutive defeat at home to Manchester City in the league and Newcastle United in the Carabao cup shows how inconsistent the team is under Erik Ten Hag.

Where is the club heading to ?
A big question right there to be answered, with the club in the 8th position in the league, picking just three points from three games in the Champions league and an early Carabao cup exit mean the club may end up not winning a trophy this season unless a change is made.

As it stand, with just 10 games played in the league and they are already 11 points behind the league leader Tottenham, the club need to invest only on quality players and not over hyped ones when the transfer window reopen in January and also try and finish strongly in the Champions league.

What The Club Should Do To Get Back On Track ?

Sack Ten Hag
Manchester United should consider sacking Erik Ten Hag if  results fail to come, they are many good coach out there which could be good option.
The club should consider bringing in Luis Enrique, Hanse Flick or Zinedine Zidane.

Hire A Sporting Director
Manchester United should consider hiring a sporting director who will oversee their sporting activities.

Hire New Recruitment Team
Manchester United need a need recruitment and scouting team who will oversee their transfer activities, if you look at the past few years ,the club has failed to sign a player suitable to the coach tactical plan, starting from Jadon Sancho, Donny Van de Beek and many others who failed to settle.

Manchester United has been one of the heavy spender when it comes to players recruitment but yet they are investing on over hyped players.

If the club should get back to their best then Barcelona should be an example for them, the Catalan club has been struggling with financial problems in the past seasons but the club are still on top of their game.

They've been signing quality players on loan and mostly promoting young players from the club famous academy.

Promote Players From Academy:
To avoid over spending, the club need to invest on young players as well as promoting players from the academy as they did with Marcus Rashford.
